AAP attends The Ontario Common Front Anti-Poverty Assembly
April 18, 2015
On April 17th and 18th AAP members attended the Ontario Common Front Anti-Poverty Assembly. Topping the roster of impressive speakers are Chicago “Fight for $15” minimum wage activist Jessica Davis, former Québec student leader Gabriel Nadeau-Dubois and award-winning author Linda McQuaig.
Organized by the Ontario Common Front and the Ontario Federation of Labour (OFL) under the banner “Solidarity Against Inequality”, the Assembly is designed with one primary purpose: to develop a broad and comprehensive plan for eliminating poverty in Ontario. The Assembly will take place only days before the Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne will release the Ontario Budget.
The Ontario Common Front will pull labour and community allies together in April to host an Anti-Poverty Assembly in Toronto, as the launching point for a “Solidarity Against Inequality” campaign. The Assembly will be held at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) at the University of Toronto and will bring together hundreds of activists to develop an action plan against poverty and inequality. The event will include representatives from marginalized and racialized communities, from anti-poverty groups, as well as trade unions, to share stories and build alliances.
